Now on the map: Waddill on the Comite River
We wrapped up Bayou Fountain early on Saturday, so I took the time to check out the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries property on the Comite River off Flannery. I’ve seen it called the Waddill Wildlife Refuge and referred to on the sign as the Waddill Outdoor Education and Enforcement Training Center, but whatever you call it, you can’t argue with its placement.
We’ve added Waddill to the PaddleBR Map, which now gives us *two* paddle launches on the Comite!
Waddill is open to the public from 7:30am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and during those hours, you can take advantage of a mostly-gravel 0.4-mile road/trail to the Comite River. If you launch at BREC’s Blackwater Conservation Area (with its half-mile walk to the launch), you can paddle 7-1/4 miles down the Comite to take out at Waddill.
Waddill is located at 4142 N. Flannery Rd. between Choctaw and Greenwell Springs. Sign in at the sign-in station when you get there to park, and for more information about Waddill, check out their web page, facebook page or just call them at 225-274-8192. No glass containers, alcohol, pets, or firearms — for complete and up-to-date details, check the sign-in station.
As we get out to paddle more on the Comite, we’ll update the Waddill launch page (click on it on the PaddleBR Map) with more photos and details, but we wanted to get the word out that downstream trips on the Comite are indeed possible.
